AquaINFRA Event

Hands-On Workshop at the University of Oulu

Start: May 14th, 2025

Time: 13:00 - 15:00

AquaINFRA is a pan-European project developing new digital tools and services - such as the Data Discovery and Access System (DDAS) and the Virtual Research Environment (VRE) - to help researchers find, harmonise and analyse water-related data across Europe. This is the first event where we are opening up these tools and ideas to researchers outside the project. We hope to stimulate new collaborations and gather valuable feedback.

Workshop Details

The hands-on (in person) workshop will take place on Thursday, 15 May (13:00-15:00) at Backstage in Tellus, Linnanmaa Campus, the University of Oulu, Finland.

It is specifically designed for PhD students and researchers who want to explore the AquaINFRA Interaction platform in detail (AIP, DDAS and VRE tools in more). During the workshop, interactive showcase examples will be presented and participants will have the opportunity to test the platforms themselves with the support of AquaINFRA experts. This will be a physical event only.

Workshop Agenda

  • Introduction to AquaINFRA Architecture (AIP, DDAS, VRE). (by Dr Markus Konkol, Research Software Engineer at 52°North GmbH, Germany)
  • Technical presentation on enhancing the analysability of EU data by applying dasymetric algorithms — featuring case studies from Denmark and Finland, and demonstrating how the results are made accessible through the AquaINFRA DDAS. (by Dr. Ida Maria Bonnevie, Assistant Professor in Geoinformatics, Aalborg University, Denmark)
  • Introduction on AquaINFRA Open Educational Resources (OERs) through presenting training material on Data-to-Knowledge Package for reproducible Spatio-Temporal Trend Detection Analysis (by Prof. Carsten Keßler and Sadra Matmir from the Geomatics faculty of the Bochum University of Applied Sciences, Germany)
  • The presentation will be followed by a hands-on session for participants to test the AquaINFRA interaction platform, import data and run the workflow developed for the Gulf of Riga, and the event will be concluded with a feedback survey.
