European Maritime Day (EMD)

Start: May 20th, 2026

End: May 21st, 2026

European Maritime Day (EMD) is the European Union’s annual flagship gathering for the maritime community, bringing together stakeholders from across Europe to reflect on our relationship with the sea and to shape a sustainable future for maritime activities. Organised by the European Commission, the event celebrates the social, economic, environmental and cultural importance of Europe’s oceans and seas.

European Maritime Day provides a unique platform for dialogue and exchange between policymakers, researchers, industry representatives, NGOs and civil society. Over two days, participants engage with the latest thinking on maritime governance, innovation and sustainability, while exploring how Europe’s blue economy can grow in ways that protect marine ecosystems and strengthen coastal communities. The event places particular emphasis on collaboration, encouraging cross-sector partnerships and knowledge sharing to address shared challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss and the sustainable use of marine resources.

Each year, European Maritime Day is hosted by a different coastal city, reinforcing the strong connection between local maritime heritage and Europe-wide policy ambitions. Alongside high-level discussions, the event showcases cutting-edge research, emerging technologies and practical initiatives that are helping to translate European maritime policy into real-world action.

Whether you are actively working in maritime affairs or simply interested in the future of Europe’s seas, European Maritime Day offers an inspiring space to connect, learn and contribute to the collective effort of building a resilient and sustainable ocean future.
